Episode 16 – Don’t Ever Call It a Monologue!

TO ACCESS THE ENTIRE FREE TEACHING LIBRARY

Sanford Meisner had a few pet peeves when it came to the craft of acting and one of them was when actors used the term “monologue.” It always generated a big reaction from him because it’s never a monologue – it’s always an active incident between two people. This work from Studio and Faculty Member, Dave Usner, beautifully demonstrates that point. When he did this work, there was “no one there.”  It was a “monologue,” and yet his job was to bring this situation to life as if he were actually talking to someone.
My apologies in advance for the strong language but I celebrate his committed work and what he’s trying to express and say! Way to go, Dave!
